Last chance to get legal, free Windows 7
While Microsoft’s Windows 7 will go on sale in just about two months, there is still a little time to get a free copy of the operating system.
Well, at least a free test copy of Windows 7, anyway. Users have until Thursday to download the “release candidate” version of the software–the final test version of the operating system. It’s a good option for those who have a spare machine to try out the software or for Mac users looking to experiment with running Windows either in virtualization software or via Boot Camp.

Modder Creates 1-inch Thick XBox
We may not have seen any real photos of the rumored PS3 Slim, but I can bring you a pic of a genuine streamlined Xbox. The Xbox Micro was created by modder Bandit5317, and features all the features of the original Xbox…except a DVD drive. The best use of this one-of-a-kind console is as of a media extender — it contains a 320GB hard-drive for all your media service needs.
I think you will agree that the emaciated Xbox is about 8,000 times slicker than the original, which is roughly the size, shape and weight of a cinderblock. I can’t believe I actually had one of those in my entertainment case!
What do you think the ugliest console ever made was? I think the original Xbox is in the running, but, the real winner is Nintendo Virtual Boy.

Windows 7 bug likely not a ‘showstopper’
Microsoft said on Wednesday that it is looking into reports of a potential bug in the final version of Windows 7. However, Microsoft’s top Windows executive said in a blog posting that the issue appears to be neither widespread, nor the “showstopper” that some are claiming it to be.
The issue, noted on several enthusiast sites this week, involves a fairly arcane process used to check for problems in a particular disk. Under certain scenarios, the site suggested Windows 7 would siphon off all the available memory to perform the scan, potentially crashing the system.

EA Reports Higher Earnings For PS3 Than Xbox 360
Electronic Arts has revealed that its PC, PlayStation 3 and Wii sales for the quarter ending June 30 were significantly higher than sales for its Xbox 360 titles.
MCVUK reports that Wii sales generated $161 million, a solid jump over last year’s $109 million, and PC sales topped $124 million. However, the most compelling disparity was between the PS3 and 360 sales, with the PS3 generating $121 million and the 360 pulling in just $73 million.
